This led me down a rabbit-hole, as it seemed to me that having openclaw talking to Home Assistant might be useful. Several days of trying various combinations (including openclaw on the HA Pi, and in Docker on Mac, and native on Mac with minimal permissions; and different ways of connecting to HA), I have concluded that it is not yet a practical proposition. To quote Perplexity (which was assisting me): "Wait 6–12 months for OpenClaw to mature and add proper MCP client support". On the plus side, I now have Ollama running on my Mac with local models!

Hi Russell,

Did you try using MCP server like github.com/jango-blockchained/… ? (I see there is more than one MCP server plugin for home assistant).

A while back I also got ollama working with home assistant, although I much prefer creating automations procedurally.

I did come across github.com/jundot/omlx as an alternative to ollama ... supposed to work better on a mac.
